Here are a few tips to help you with this:

1- Brush your child’s teeth twice a day. Use fluoridated toothpaste - a pea size amount if your child is over 3 years of age and can spit, or a rice size amount if your child is under 3 years of age (pls see video tutorials).

2- Floss teeth if the teeth are touching so you clean the areas where the toothbrush cannot reach (this usually starts at 3 and half years of age).

3- Mouthwash is optional, as it decreases the level of bacteria in the mouth.

4- Maintain a balanced diet, limit the intake of sweets and fermentable carbs (chips, crackers, biscuits...).

5- Schedule your check-ups with us every 6 months.

6- If your child plays contact sports, use a mouth guard!

Why Start Early?

One of the most important goals in pediatric dentistry is prevention. Preventive dental care is key, especially at a young age. When you establish your child’s dental home by the first birthday, bring him/her in for routine check-ups every 6 months and maintain proper oral hygiene and diet, you are on the road to helping them achieve the perfect smile!

Why fix baby teeth if they will fall out?

1-True! Baby teeth will fall out, but the ones that are most decayed are the ones that fall out between 12 to 13 years of age, so waiting till the tooth falls out will only cause your child unnecessary pain and infections.

2- Baby teeth act as natural placeholders for permanent teeth. If a baby tooth is lost early due to decay or damage, neighboring teeth can shift, causing alignment issues that may require orthodontic treatment later

3-Fixing baby teeth teaches your child the importance of oral hygiene and regular dental care. These early experiences help set the stage for a lifetime of good habits and positive attitude towards dental visits.

4- A healthy, complete smile can boost your child’s self-esteem. Damaged or decayed teeth may affect their willingness to smile or interact with others
